The ‘Get Off Your Arse’ Inspiration List
Fortnightly, Free, and Zero B/S.
Let’s be honest. Your inbox is probably a landfill of forgotten newsletters and “motivational” fluff that hasn’t motivated a houseplant, let alone you.
This is different. This is the Reflection Coaching No B/S Inspiration List.
Every two weeks, Des Burke delivers a swift, focused email designed to challenge your thinking, kick your assumptions, and give you the mental nudge you need to stop planning and start doing.
If you’re ready to trade daydreaming for deadlines, and wishing for winning, then join the club. We promise to be the most productive thing that lands in your inbox.
Don’t just believe us, believe history’s obscure wisdom…
We don’t do recycled clichés. We dig for the hard-hitting, unconventional wisdom that actually sparks movement. Here are five examples of the kind of insight we deliver, complete with a practical application you can use before your coffee gets cold.
- “We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out.”– Ray Bradbury
The Application: Stop waiting for the ‘right time’ to share your idea. Schedule 15 minutes today to present your nascent concept (the “beautiful stuff”) to one trusted person. Start tipping!
- “If you do not think about the future, you cannot have one.”– John Galsworthy
The Application: This week, ditch the vague “be better” goal. Identify one concrete, measurable step you need to take today to make tomorrow’s success inevitable. (Example: Not “I’ll save money,” but “I’ll automate a transfer of £50 tonight.”)
- “The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined by praise than saved by criticism.”– Norman Vincent Peale
The Challenge: Find the most critical person you trust—the one who won’t just flatter you—and ask them for honest feedback on your current project. Embrace the discomfort. It’s cheaper than ruin.
- “A committee is a thing which takes a week to do what one good man can do in an hour.”– Elbert Hubbard
The Lesson: Identify one decision you’ve been delaying because you wanted input from too many people. Take yourself off the committee and make the executive decision right now. Simplify your action plan.
- “You can’t be content with the good fight, you have to be ready to have the bad fight too.”– Daphne Du Maurier
The Reality Check: Success isn’t all highs. What is the single hardest, most uncomfortable task you need to complete next? Commit to starting that “bad fight” first thing tomorrow morning. Get it over with!
